bill fungus?
« on: July 10, 2013, 01:04:02 am »
One of my runners ( BIGYIN) has developed a problem with her bill. At the top of her bill where it meets her head  and halfway down the right side of the top of her bill changed colour and started peeling!!!!!!

We handle our girls daily so we notice stuff ...She was OK one day then whammmm.

She isnt off lay, off her food or exhibiting any strange behavour   and the others are fine. we clean their wendy house often and use a medicated bedding. The main door is open all day to air. no water or food inside the wendy house. God only knows where it has come from...( Duck god that is!! )

Anyway we set about treating it. Not wanting to use chemicals on her we prepared a comfrey poultice with tumeric and applied tee tree oil 3 times a day... and it seemed to work! well it didn't get any worse anyway.

This morning we took her to the "Ducktor" (spelled vet). Much to the amusement of others in the waiting room!!! ( she is loud! ) He checked her out and said she is in fine condition. Confirmed it wasnt canker. Agreed it may have been fungal and as she is already visibly healing said our treatment was good too tho he said if it comes back to use athletes foot cream!!!

I have had many good experiences with comfrey its a miracle plant for cuts and burns...

So all is well.  :fc:  we hope... I just though I would share the experience...

We have had fungal surface problems with chickens combs. At one stage I thought it was fowl pox but we treated with everything we had including Gentian Violet which is supposed to fix fungal. Wish we'd thought of Athletes Foot Cream -could have saved us a lot of hassle Robbiegrant.
