Ooopss!

Oooopps!  I went out today to fetch 1 cockerel, and came home with 4 cockerels, 2 hens, 2 drakes and 3 lady ducks (sorry - having a moment and can't remember the proper name for girl ducks).  I'm supposed to be collecting a gold sikie and a buff orpington tomorrow as well (both boys, they live together at the moment and don't like being separated)

We have loads of space across several enclosures so the boys will be okay all together.  I ended up with a RIR, buff and light sussexes and of unknown breed but very pretty fella, and buff and light sussex hens.  Also male and 2 females black and white and brown and white runner ducks and a male and female Ayesburys.  Ducks have been named Donald, Daisy, Daffy, Delilah and Darleen (now they have names my other half can't eat them  :P )

Went to a lovely lady who breeds them in her big garden, and she had some cockerels and drakes who were destined for the pot - therefore I couldnt say no.  She had some really beautiful birds, some breeds I have never seen.  Fell in love with a Derbyshire Red Cap, Polish frizzles, Seramas and a black and white frizzle Cochin.  Could have spent hours looking at all the birds, and she gave us loads of advice.  Had a really nice time!!!

Its not just me then, phew!

Redcaps are gorgeous... sadly we only have two left now (some died & the 4 cockerels went to the great cooking pot in the sky!)  but I intend on getting more one day soon  :D

Yes, we have 27 hens, and are due to get another dozen or so from an egg farm changeover in August, so they have plenty of ladies to keep them amused!

Just been out to put them all to bed, and they are all cuddled up in their beds so didn't have to show anyone the way!  The goats look a bit confused when the ducks quack though!!   :cow:

I think female ducks are just ducks, and males are drakes ;D
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
