Hello from south west Scotland
« on: April 11, 2009, 11:13:15 pm »
Just popping in to say hello and introduce myself. I grew up on a farm in Lanarkshire, most of my jobs have involved working with animals and I'm now self-employed pursuing a self-sufficientish lifestyle in rural southwest Scotland. A housemove late 2008 meant I'd to start from scratch with a small patch of land that is slowly becoming our garden and home to the poultry.

Livestock = 2 laying hens (hybrids), 1 white Pekin bantam cockeral (on holiday here), 1 Silkie, 1 broody who just hatched 6 eggs last week, 6 x bred chicks, 2 Lavender Araucana, 5 Coturnix quail and a selection of eggs in incubators.

Looking forward to getting to know others on here

Edited in on 16th April - We had 9 chicks hatched last night out of eggs in the incubator  ;D  :chook: 5 Silkies and 4 lavender splash Pekins.

I love Lanarkshire - there are so many garden centres between here(Clacks) and there that the ground must be really fertile and the climate good.  Hope you enjoy being with us, we're not a bad lot  ;D
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome :)

Grew up in North Lanarkshire,. Lesmahagow was a 'horsey' haunt and from there I ended up in Newmarket area. Came back to Scotland and am now in a farm cottage about 25 miles from Stranraer. I don't have a smallholding, but I've crammed as much as possible into my garden. :chook: :&>   :farmer: Does that count?  ;D

I think if you grow anything with a view to eating it you qualify as a smallholder. :-*
