This years lambs in fleeces !
« on: March 04, 2011, 06:30:21 pm »
Here are some pics of my homemade fleece jackets for the little darlings, I only give them to the small and weak ones, and if its too rainy they have to either stay in or the jackets have to come off as they are not water proof, next year perhaps new proto-type ??

You could use carrier bags suitably cut to go over the fleecey jackets to make them waterproof - holes for the head and front legs.  A friend has used a posh dog coat for an elderly Soay - looks hilarious but yours are cheaper and look very cute  :). The only problem I can foresee with havingf a waterproof jacket on when it rains is if water trickles down under the jacket, then it will take longer to dry out afterwards.  Other than that I'm sure your jackets will save some little lives  :)

the jackets are very easy to make I will draw a pattern and try to post it on here, really very simple. The lambs only have them on a couple of weeks at most just till (the very over protective fool that I am  :-[) I feel they are feeding well and big enough to be ok in the outside world  :D

Being protective is good my prems only went into stable yesterday as I was sure they were feeding well putting on weight and now taking some creep. They were in the home paddock playing with the new lambs born in the last week and a half and they are still smaller but know how to hold there own which is good
