Lamb born with twisted leg

Hi need some advice had a zwartble ewe lamb born this morning but its back leg looks as if its dislocated she can get up and walk about but when she is walking her back leg turns from her hip anyone got any ideas?

Don't know - but if she is bearing weight through it and pottering about then it is unlikely to be dislocated IMO.


Could be that the leg was twisted round in the womb and it will straighten as she walks about on it.


Is she distressed? or off her milk? if not then probably worth chatting to the vet about it in due course. I am sure somebody more experienced will be along in a minute to advise.

Sadly I agree with Marches Farmer, This looks similar to a ewe lamb I have and we are looking positive for SBV(schmallenberg or how ever you spell it)

If its just one leg will probably come right but may take 7-10days. Put a figure of eight of duct tape aound the hock to stop it hyperextending.  That's usually enough but occasionally they need a light splint - cut plastic tree guard is ideal

Hi sorry for late reply, kept an eye on her and she was bright enough and was eating kept her in  a pen with her mum and brother and its straightened itself out she still looks a little different from the other lambs but seems perfectly healthy.
