Deciphering worm count results
« on: October 20, 2021, 09:24:30 am »
Hi one of our ewes has lost quite a bit of weight over the past month despite appearing to feed normally so I did a worm count. The results showed 100epg strongyle eggs (roundworm/stomach hair worm). I can’t find anything clear online about whether this needs treatment or not. Any help much appreciated, thank you.

You could ring your vet, and explain the problems you’ve got with her. But 100epg I wouldn’t worm mine. Other diagnosis could be fluke, teeth problems, johnes, MV, an infection of some sort, so I’d speak to your vet today.

Thank you, I will call the vet. I did have a look at her teeth but couldn’t see anything - hard to get a good look though!

there's a lass down south who is a vet but also analyses fec.   You collect the samples, send them to her , she tells you what the answer is and discusses treatment and then does a follow up sample analysis for free

I believe her name is Emily   is her email address.     Dr Emily Boreham BVetMed MRCVS
