we have two ewes we got last year as lambs from a local breeder..they are tagged in both tag is a uk number, other is a separate number with end number different for each ewe..guessing this is a breeders herd number? or something like that.
we keep these recorded along with vacc and worming dates and what was used.
we are looking into letting the two ewes go to a tup in autumn..
what paperwork is involved if they dont leave our holding..wanted to buy a lamb ram as first time for the girls and then slaughter him once hes done his job.
having read a previous post about a lamb with a slaughter only tag im now worrying that we need to inform someone or do something special to use these as breeding stock?
am i panicking about nothing...they are 2012 lambs if that makes a difference and were sold to us as pets and not for slaughter.

It isn't a silly question at all.

Your ewes sound as though they are already correctly tagged to keep for as long as you wish with an EID tag flock number and an individual identifier so you only need to worry about the ram lamb you are considering.

If you are going to slaughter him before he reaches 12 months he only needs one tag but if there is a chance you might keep him beyond 12 months then he will need two just like the ewes.

Other than that all you will need is the usual movement form to bring him onto your holding (and of course another to send him off for slaughter in due course).  Lots of people use two tags in all their sheep so if he has two tags that is fine.

You will then need to tag your lambs in due course.

Do I win the price for todays most stupid question?
