Timber/Tree value
« on: May 08, 2012, 01:24:17 pm »
Hi folks

after a massive storm 10 days ago we are now left with various trees that need to be cleared, across our garden and land. Some of the leylandi we were more than happy to see down, except the one laying over the roof of the house,  but in the middle of our land there was a large scots pine.

A local guy has suggested that we have it milled on site and use the wood, I would rather have less expense than more so my question is whether there is any value in the tree to a sawmill, I would rather sell the trunk to help pay for the other tree related expenditure we are having to pay out.

So any advice would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks

probably more value to you as sawn timber  there will be a surplus of trees in the area therefore the value drops and you have still to transport it :farmer:

most on site millers charger by the day, so to make it worthwhile you have to keep that machine running flat out, i doubt one tree would be worth it, i think it cost us 360 for the day.

I agree it only has  any value if your doing the milling for your own use. I would put it to one side till you have a shed or other building to construct and get it milled then. But I would still quote the timber as it could be cheaper bought in.
But to be honest its probably fire wood!
