How do I get the fruit to set on my cherry tomatoes?
« on: August 11, 2011, 08:24:47 pm »
I've loads of flowers on my cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets. Some have set and ripened but there are still LOADS of lfowers.

How can I get them to set or am I just being impatient? After all - some have set and ripened so something's obviously going right.

Advice would be appreciated. (including being told to button up and wait  ;D ;D ;D)

...button up and wait!!

There is obviously some insecty activity as you have fruit set, if your weather is anything like ours then all the buzzy bees are sitting around the hive watching the bee-ball on the telly (!)

Encourage pollinators with other flowing plants around where your baskets are, there are many websites with lists of bee-friendly plants, which of course hoverflies etc like too

Make sure the plants have enough water, or they know they can't carry a full complement of fruit if they are dry or starved.  Spray the flowers gently with water each day, or knock them to distribute the pollen.  Having said that, my tomatoes are rubbish this year, just not ripening  ::)
