I have planted white onion sets already and wanted to do the same with red onion sets.

Questions:

Is it too late for autumn onion sets?

What breed of red onion would you recommend for autumn planting?

Now is fine for planting onions still, Marshalls have just delivered my Red Cross, Troy and Radar sets, along with a selection of Garlic which i will be putting in as soon as i get chance. It has worked great for me for the last two years havn't had to but any from the shops since. I do also make sure i put in plenty of wood ash before i plant.

I bought Radar at the GC yesterday and they had Troy also, can't remember what the red ones were called but they were shooting and looked a bit worse for wear so I left them tho I'd love red onions in again as I did well with them a couple of years back..

i just planted my onin sets yesterday (Fife).  found that the red onion sets were a bit small so I've put them in modules so i can cosset them a wee bit till they are bigger and then probably plant those ones out in the spring for lifting next summer.  all the rest are directly into the ground - all 165 of them!!
