Vaccinations
« on: February 10, 2010, 02:51:54 am »
If you hatch and breed your own chicks is there a real need to vaccinate. I've noticed some poultry sellers only medicate/vacinate when absolutely necessary- and even see it as a selling point to some extent?
The books seem to suggest that you should only buy vaccinated birds- why is this? is it so you dont bring in disease to your own flock?

Never bought vaccinated birds, never had a problem touch wood. Lot of this applies to intensive rearing.

I have hatched chicks for years, never vaccinated, and so far, no problems, but thats not to say I do it right of course, or that I won't hae problems.  I like to keep my animals and birds naturally, so do minimal meds for them.  I use natural wormers where possible too.

yes verm x.  Also use the pelleted verm x for the goats, sheep and llama.....buy a big giant tub and it costs a fortune.
