Author Topic: looking for advice for friend thats got a olive grove in spain  (Read 2355 times)

hi a friend of mine and his wife has just brought 30 acers of terreced farm land in south of spain near bacalona in the hills south facing  they have 200 olive trees dating back 150 years these trees have never had a regular water suply as this is a dry farm ther was no water untill my friends have had all new irrigation connected  to suplt the trees regulary  would this boost there harvest  they have an old stone house thats in need of major repair before liveable and an old stone barn  iam so happy for them does any one live in spain with a small holding  as iam going over to help them for the olive harvest

 all the advice i can pass of to them  would be greatfull

Oh how lovely.  They will love it.  I remember seeing one of these move to the country TV programmes and as far as I could see if you integrate in the community they help you out.  I would suggest your friends should contact local people, learn as much Spanish as they can and use it rather than trying to speak English - that is always appreciated.  I remember they had big nets under the trees and they shook the trees, but there was a lot of olives all at the same time and there is a big panic to get them all picked and shipped to the processors. Offer to help neighbours and they will help you - same as in the UK I guess.  Have fun when you go over to help them.
