No cheap supermarket fruit trees?
« on: February 17, 2021, 08:52:33 pm »
Is there no cheap supermarket fruit trees this year at all?
I have see some in co-op.
Usually there's plenty in Asda, Aldi and all other ones.
I was specifically waiting for them, wanted to plant some plums and damsons

Doh! I will have to buy some much more expensive trees online - even online most trees are sold out!

Saw some earlier this year but maybe you're right - a bit scarcer supply this year and/or bought-up more rapidly.

My cousin bought some for me last week from Tesco - ?6 each or two for ?10.  Victoria plums, selection of apples, cherry

She and her partner came on Sunday morning and planted them for me - I'm not up to digging holes nowadays, so very grateful

Thanks all for the updates. I'm struggling a bit in North Wales, really need to get hold of a few supermrket ones to pad out a local variety orchard. Lidl has nothing, Aldi just a few asparagus crowns that are doing well now, ASDA, tesco, B&M, nothing.

If anyone hears of cheap fruit trees near Bangor, let me know! I'm even saving pips now.

I've bought 2 trees from Aldi the day they were released  ;) however I think they only had 1 delivery, as I went there later and there were still the same trees in stock as the day before.
Haven't seen any in Asda or Sainsbury.
There were some apple trees in the Home Bargains, but only apples - looks like I will have to wait for August to make an order for next winter.

I need some help please. Last month, I bought a fruit tree at Aldi that was unlabelled. Based on it woolly-hairy buds, it appears to be an apple but I don't know which variety. Aldi's leaflet from 18 February 2021 doesn't specify which apple varieties they had. Do you remember, which types of apple were for sale this year at Aldi? Thanks
