I used to have a VW Golf that was so bashed and rusty I was forbidden from parking it outside the office! People used to come up to me and tell me my ladders had fallen off. When I sold it, it had done 120 thousand miles and was still going strong. The next Golf after that did 115 thousand before I sold it on.
Had a Passat which was fab for boot space but started falling apart the minute I made the final payment, a BMW 320i which is totally crap in the snow i.e it cannot move at all even up a one inch incline, and a Honda CRV which is nice and roomy and reliable and is great on snow and rough roads.
I would LOVE a VW camper van like Sandy! I also loved the old Morris cars with the wooden panels.... real characters.
If I won the lottery I would buy a big comfy Lexus  - my AA man told me (when fixing the passat for the umpteenth time) they were the most reliable cars he had come across!
HH I am so impressed you know how to do up a car! It was a lovely looking car.

Hello vair Lots of followers VW have. The one in the tea chests was a Transporter Pick up truck. Merv had the van version he and his pal turned a van version into a camper like Sandy's with a scissors roof that they made them selves it was a work of art I can tell you. Then the whole thing was painted in a rich royal blue with a sky blue waist band.Beautiful it looked finished.Brian has a Octavia we cannot see any difference between the A4 his Octavia and a Passat but the badges are different. It seems the 2010 Way of doing things haven't heard from Miri lately so hopefully the Land Rover is going on and behaving its self. ;D :farmer:

Val, I'm a TOTAL petrol head (always have been, always will be) I have to admit that I didn't do it all myself  ;) But it was the easiest way for me to learn how to fix it when it broke down (well, that was my Dad's reasoning) luckily for me it didn't break down often but the engine's so simple all it needed was a squirt of WD40 and a smack with a spanner lol!

Golf's always seem to go on forever (well, to about 120,000 miles then it gets expensive  ;D) Can you tell I'm a VW fan lol !

Wizard, my Dad's had a few VW campers over the years - always great fun !  ;D ;D ;D
Especially the one he put an alfa romeo engine in, we managed to achieve top speeds of over 70mph......................until it blew up  :-[ ;) ;D

Bit of a pass time with the Alfa-sud. Went like the proverbial s**t off a shiny shovel but not for long before it needed spannering ??? ;D :farmer:

If I won I would do up my VW with a super cool interior and very fast engine then buy an old Landrover Defender, SWB with a most lux  interior, heater, well sprung and again a BIG engine and super sound system BUT the outside would look as rough as an old Farm worked one!!! WHy, then I could drive it without anyone knowing how good it was and any scratches would just add to the charactor!!

My word Sandy over the years there has been some different sorts. My pal from Church Farm bought a new one a couple of years back and it had this Fly by Wire throttle pedal.Bloody dangerous One comes up quite a steep hill and out on to a busy A road The thing takes time working out you have asked it to go and with that something else is coming round the blind corner. He had it in Duckworth's several times for adjustment but I dont think it was ever as good as a cable control ??? :farmer:.

Hi George,  my friend fitted a new pipe that goes from the filler bit to the tank (don't know the proper name).  The old one had a hole and there was a puddle of petrol under the driver seat! :o  I have a feeling Mark shakes his his head telling his mates in the pub about my death trap car!
