It is a difficult time you are going through WP.......We've been there, done that and got the t-shirt!  A dreadful time to be going through, but please believe me when I say that things do get better.

Looking forward to seeing you and Jess very soon.

It's OK to feel down and in a dark place, but you are right when you say it's time to 'roll up the sleeves and get messy'.  You have an exciting life ahead of you and now can be the beginning of great things.

think of it as a new begining WP, better to scale down than to struggle on.

I sometimes think it's easier to talk to more "anonymous" people online, than talking to people who are in front of you. Remember to share your feelings with your other half though- don't shut them out.

I wish you good luck WP, I know its not an easy time to go through. Be assured, we will be here to listen.

thanks guys, butthere has been a development as in Mrs WP has managed to get alittle part time job which fits around Princesses playgroup!! all fingers crossed but hopefully we can keep our home. Perhaps the rolling up sleeves and fighting was meant so we can stay here and not be beaten. weekend of talking and agreeing the way forward is on the cards i think. but there seems to be a silver lining to this black cloud, fingers, toes, arms, legs & eyes crossed

All crossed here too, WP!  Remember it is costly to move home so take that into consideration too.  Lawyers and estate agents fees, stamp duty, removal men, phone and other utilites to change. New carpets/curtains.  Stay put if you can.  and the very best of luck, whatever you decide to do.

You can ask for estate agents (1% only pay) and solicitors to lower their charges, if they want the work they will do it as 1% is better than nothing.

Get a load of mates to help you move so you don't spend on removal men, and the phone people have loads of reconnection deals that are free, look it up on the 'net.

Ask your bank to stop any charges if you are overdrawn or arrange for a short term free overdraft, repayable on your house sale.

Ask all of your creditors to stop the charges or adding interest, explain that you can pay what you owe at a reasonable amount per week/month but with charges you couldn't so something back is better than nothing for them. You cant get blood out of a stone scenario.

Sometimes its better to lower your house price to just under stamp duty level to sell it quicker than pay stamp duty at a higher level.
Ask your new house vendor if they will do this to cheapen your new purchase, or ask that if you have to pay stamp duty they will lower their overall price for you to accommodate the duty or leave you carpets and curtains or furniture etc..

Carpets and curtains look at charity shops and for shops that are closing down, again you can find these on the 'net.

Always, ALWAYS ask for a discount for anything you want (services as well as purchases) as they can only say 'no' but in this recession people usually say 'yes'.

Good luck and I hope you can find comfort with your friends here and I hope I'm helping too.  ;D

No it can't be recession forever and hopefully we are over the worst. you sound like a determined, hardworking, ambitious, proud person - with all those attributes things will work out for you.
Tony and I are currently going through similar but perhaps not quite on the same scale - belts tightened, sleeves up...
take care WP and I am sure you will be fine - Lisa

Just remember whatever the emergency budget throws at us tomorrow it is never as bad as the pundits says in real life terms.  I think it is going to be a harsh budget - VAT rise, Capital Gains Tax rise, Stamp duty rise, perhaps NIC rise.  But they only bite if you move home, but high priced goods, and have investments.  The majority of ordinary people don't have all of these going on at the same time.

VAT rises effect everyone though Annie. In already fragile enviroment a rise in VAT will be fatal for many of us small businesses who are already finding it tough. It seems odd that a few months ago the Labour government cut VAT to kick start the economy so how can they now say that by raising it they are doing it for the best of the economy?????
