Well you have at least a start lass. Now change to terrier tactics you have hold shack e'm and don't let go.They give up to get rid of you.Or they do me.Keep at them and when nothing appears to you to be happening. Don't ring them up get round there and play your face. It's far more difficult to lie face to face than on the phone.Or bluddi L shes here again.I had better do something. He /she WILL see you if you want them to or of course run over you and I don't think they have the nerve for that.Keep at them lass don't give them a minutes peace and forget the phone until YOU want to use it for your Harry's benefit Good luck with the next step George XXX

OMG Miri ! Whenever you post something else about Harry's behaviour I could cry cause it's exactly the same as Kaitlin. We have problems with toileting too (and despite trying everything, and her knowing exactly what she's doing - it still persists)
I really hope you get somewhere soon - I'm away to give my lot some more hassle now  ;)

I haven't met Harry, but Kaitlin is the most gorgeous wee girl.  I wish you both a huge success with your bairns. My 8 year old grandson is a handful, but more because he is obessive about things(mainly IT games!) than any other reason.  Fairly normal otherwise, luckily.

MM, before I forget...  OT said you really need a GP referal for an OT assessment, via a paedatrician... but they may not do all the sensory stuff that might benefit Harry, so the more info you arm yourself with first, the better!
The LEA might eventually agree to a private assessment (eg at my work) but that will cost ££s
either will probably mean a long wait.

Very much agree with Lee, and the more you can write down, the easier it is to complete all those assessment forms that will come your way!  Even down to your pregnancy and his birth sometimes.

OK I'll start doing a diary.  I spoke to the Head today, but she has said Ed Psych won't go to the school until the Community Paediatrician has assessed Harry.  She has however offered to get someone from Behavioural Support to observe him in the classroom.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.  I feel so much better for doing something, but I guess now I have to wait a week or two before I can start growling again.

HH, we should get our 2 mad children together and see if they can burn each other out!

Ruth, do you still think its worth mentioning the OT to the Community Paediatrician or are you thinking its not suitable for Harry?  Also, do you think its worth paying for a private IQ test for him?  Would it help or will they assess his intelligence levels anyway?

Sorry here I am picking everyone's brains again.  When I try to get info, from the internet, on what direction all of this will go I can't seem to find an answer.  Maybe different authorities do things differently.  I've ordered an ADHD book from Amazon as the blurb about it sounded so suitable for Harry, but its not arrived yet.  At least I can get my teeth into the book when it arrives and feel like I'm doing something.

YES!!  Because an OT assessment should identify some of the triggers for Harry, and hopefully some solutions/strategies for you and him to help him manage.

And NO!! IQ has absolutely no correlation to ADHD or ASD or any other acronym!  Harry is a bright, sparky, loving boy who reads well, can plan, manipulate and has good social skills already.  HIs learning is affected by his condition and 'engine levels' (I'll explain another time!) not his intellegence.
Save your money for something that will help him, not assign him another label.
If you really want to know, do a free mensa test.

Lastly, there are some good, and some not so good books out there.  When Harry has a true diagnosis, I can point you in the direction of some useful stuff.  But get a true diagnosis first, so you dont end up scaring yourself!

Good point Ruth, but the whole time I'm doing things in the back of my mind I keep reminding myself that ADHD is only guess work at the moment and may be totally irrelevant.  I've stopped looking at websites as they are so confusing and depressing.

I bought a local paper today and found an advert for 'smarter scotland'  They have a scheme called 'just ask' for all parents to contact them if their children have any difficulties at school.
Don't know if it's of any interest to Kaitlin or Harry - but here's the phone number and web address - 0845 123 2303 www.infoscotland.com/justask

Keep your fingers crossed for Tuesday 1145 Harry's referral has finally come through after they had a cancellation.  Being a pushy Mum does work!  Felt good too!!!  I have a huge list of questions and issues for discussion.

We had an hour session with the Community Paediatrician today.  Harry was brilliantly well behaved as she fired questions at me from pregnancy through to now, how we discipline him, how he reacts to certain things.  She asked Harry about school, his friends, clubs he goes to e.t.c and she explained who she was and why he was meeting her.  She weighed and measured Harry, listened to his heart, checked blood pressure to rule out any medical problems.  He is also going to have a urine test and a hearing test.  I took Harry's Home/School Diary, his IEP and a list of 30 issues I was concerned about!!  Harry was very calm, but at the end of the session he commented that he is very busy.

I then had a 40 minute phone call with her once Harry was back in school as I told her that I felt uncomfortable discussing some things in front of Harry.  At the end of the phone call she said that if all other things are ruled out it looks like that he may have ADHD and she is sending us a leaflet and details for a local support group.  She also said that whilst he was very well behaved he wasn't normal (whatever that means).  A questionairre will be sent to us and the school and then we will meet her again in a couple of months where she will presumably she will have collated all the info and will be able to give a diagnosis.  She has also offered to be at the next IEP meeting which will take place in April.

Harry was hilarious at one point.  I was telling the woman about when one of Harry's teachers said to me "Well I've dealt with children much worse than Harry - children who spit and throw chairs".  "Oh like ****!" Harry pipes up, naming the child he keeps having run ins with!! ;D  It did make me giggle.

So I'm feeling more positive as at least things are now moving forward.  Harry goes to see the Cranial Osteopath again on Thursday so it will be interesting to see if he has a really bad week following the appointment like he did the last time.
