Keeping water buts fresh

Hi,

We have a great water but and collect loads of water, but the water stinks. I remember reading somewhere ages ago that you could put plants in the but to keep it fresh. I can't remember if you actually planted them or if you added a bouquet almost.

Does anyone know about this of know where I can get more info?

Hel.

You could put some water soldiers in, they float and oxygenate the water
