People's thoughts on ringing pigs noses?

Pigs make mess that's just the norm too me. I managed my land according to this but I can see that ringing pigs is becoming more popular.....who does who doesn't? Pro's and cons

I absolutely wouldn't do it. Apart from causing pain and potential infection to the pig I wouldn't want to stop their natural behaviour. I see it in the same light as tail docking and teeth clipping. Belongs in the past in my opinion.

If people are that worried about pigs making a mess of their ground then perhaps they should be considering another type of grazing animal .... or keeping them on concrete?

Agree with the others, it's barbaric.
Everyone makes mistakes as the Dalek said climbing off the dustbin.

I was allowed to rent some land for pigs provided i ring them.  I looked into it and decided that he could keep his land.
If you cant beat 'em then at least bugger 'em about a bit.

I wouldn't consider it .... as others have said it should be confined to the history books.
If messing up the land is a problem try sheep instead!

It's denying them the right to exhibit their natural behaviour  :(
Not something that sits well with me I'm afraid.

I know someone who did ring his pigs' to try and stop them rooting - it didn't and it made a terrible mess of their snouts  :'( If you want pristine grassy fields, keep sheep  ;)

Pig Ringing is awful.  Its painful to attach and then painful/ uncomfortable every time the pig tries to do what is natural to it.
As others have said if your not willing to let a pig do what is natural on your land, then get sheep!
