Its a good few years ago now since we kept Dexters and I was looking through some old photos last night when I found these. They brought back some happy memories of our times keeping cattle and of the summer, so I thought that you might like to see them. This is what we woke up to one summer morning. Happy days! :farmer:

Super photos.  Makes me impatient for the summer, when we get a few beef cross heifer colves from a local dairy farm and take them on to sell as potential suckler cows before we need the sheds for lambing the following year.

When I was a young boy of eleven or twelve I worked on the farm next door for a whole two shillings a day. It was a mixed but mainly dairy farm and one of my 'bestest jobs' was feeding the milk to the new born calves that had been taken from their mothers. The milk was in a bucket and to get them to start feeding you had to put milk on your fingers and get the calf to suck them before leading their head down into the bucket. Memories eh? :farmer: :cow:

Dad would buy hereford x calves and we would have to teach them to drink from the bucket, the females always caught on quicker than the bull calves. ::)  brains or food motivated?

I've always wanted some Dexters, still have the breed info I got back in the 80's.
