Hi
does anyone know of a sunblock cream that could be used on my sheep's white bits (blaze and two white socks)
she is suffering from photosensitivity (see separate post)
has anyone had success with this ailment using sunblock?

Not sure if its sheep suitable but one used on a pony here is 'P45' or 'P20' (has a red/orange rainbow on) and that owner is a real organic/anti-chemical type.

used to use sunblock on my pink skinned pure white cotentin ewes ears and vulva ( extreme dock unfortunately) I didn't worry about which one just high factor and quite greasy seemed to work.

wev used zinc and castor oil on ponies noses to prevent sunburn, shop-own or sudocreme. shop-own are not so sticky so easier to apply to sore hairy skin.

I can't see why the human ones would be a problem. I'd use the high factor sprays (SPF50) designed for kids I think.

We've used sudocrem with relative success this summer on a lamb that lost a lot of fleece on her back due to flystrike, just needs to be applied fairly thick every morning.

thanks for your replies folks        I have been using sudocrem on the sore bits but hadn't realised it could be used as a sunblock - will spread it further over the remaining white bits
the photosensitivity has also caused her to have firmly swollen pasterns (two white hind socks) but I can't give her steroids as she may be pregnant         vet said ok to give metacam but presume this isn't to be a regular event       anyone know of safe homeopathic remedy that could be given to a sheep that may be in first few weeks of pregnancy (she may not be given the moving in and out/handling etc!) thanks
