Bald rear end!
« on: September 08, 2013, 05:05:41 pm »
My ram lamb with the fly strike now appears fully recovered  :fc: . However the fleece that was affected, from the top of his tail to half-way along his back, is now falling out. The skin underneath is in good condition but completely bare and very soft. Just like a baby's bottom really :eyelashes: .

Does anyone know if the fleece will grow back and how I protect the rather delicate looking skin in the short term?

Yes it will grow back in time.

It's not really a problem unless it's very sunny or very cold and wet where you are.  For the latter, provide shelter.  For the former, I guess read the thread on using sunblock on sheep!

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
