Landless CPH No's
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:57:54 am »
A friendly word of advice ...

ALWAYS CHECK-OUT YOUR POTENTIAL BUYERS CPH NO. BEFORE YOU GET THEIR DEPOSIT

I have recently had someone, who has kept stock on their micro-holding for years, wanting to purchase some KK weaners.  All seemed fine, until I attempted to process the movement on ScotEID - their holding was LANDLESS  :o

As you can imagine, this has caused upset for the folk involved - apart from the fact I now have 2 unsold piglets, which were fully paid for & registered in the folks' name  ::)

I guess this is going to become more noticable now we have an electronic system - I assume in the past the local AH Inspector had to sort it, as we, as sellers, wouldn't have necessarily known about it - even though I always offer aftercare to any of my buyers & not heard of it before.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Beewyched

This is a problem we have very frequently when selling sheep, so yes, I always make sure people are properly registered when they first enquire, and that gives them time to get it all sorted before they collect their sheep.  You would think that if someone has been keeping animals already that they would have it all done years ago - but no  ::)

How can there be a CPH number without any land? A CPH refers to a piece of land, not a person or a business. On thyge subject of eAML2, what a load of crap. It said we weren't registered even though we are and despite sending me an e-mail telling me that a movement was on it's way. Then two days later the movement miraculously appeared in my account. Marvellous.

You can get a CPH on anything physical eg a second floor flat, hence this will not unfortunately prevent micro sales, that is they relate to a geographical location.

Landless CPH's are something else, I don't fully understand when these get allocated, or quite why, as HH says seems to be to do with rental, but again since the authorities would want to know where the infected pig has just moved to, wouldn't they want a location of the rented?

And as Robert says all the pre-notify and stuff is just more intrusion, now we need permission from the state first to move animals !

Juliet    - I will email you this evening  :bouquet:

Cheers Karen - ditto later this year  :-*

Oaklands - it is definately the rental side of things up hear in the Bonnie Land - farmers historically purchasing neighbouring farms for the land, which then is registered to their CPH, then rent-out the premises as a "smallholding with a couple of acres".  Which is fine for folks only wanting to have some chucks, a pony, grow fruit & veg etc.  Problems arise when they then decide to start the actual smallholding side of things.

IMPO I would rather know if there's gonna be a problem for prospective purchasers - it's less heart-breaking for them, less stress for the animal (especially as we're usually talking about moving youngsters here) & less time-consuming for me - at least we'll now know if a CPH No is correct BEFORE we go ahead with a sale.

Hi
I've just been given a landless cph number, even though my friends land where I will be keeping pigs already has a cph. I live too far away apparently so I need my own number.
Was there a reason why they couldnt buy your pigs? (just wondering if breeders will have a problem with my number being landless?)

Lynne,
I have a landless CPH number, whilst i am waiting of the owner to decide if he will sell me the land. I can keep whatever animals i like - the same as a person who owns the land with a CPH number. I am confused as to why you couldn't sell on the pigs?
This was arranged through SGRIP in Ayr last month.
