I'm currently shopping around for a better deal and wondered what other people were paying at the moment when buying in bulk - either bagged or loose, by the tonne.

I was told that a company called ACT (Agricultural Central Trading) was offering a tonne at £200 - which is £50 less than I'm paying BOCM Pauls per tonne of standard sow rolls. Unfortunately, they don't supply to Wales!

rolls are from a merchant in cleobury, we buy a ton at a time. theyre glw which id not heard of before.
the rolled wheat we also mix in, we grew but cost 500£ for drilling and spraying etc, and we got 12 tonne of the field. we ploughed and harvested it.

Can you tell me please Windymiller, is that for a tonne bulk bag or 25Kg sacks ?

I thought I was doing well getting a tonne (40 x 25Kg sacks) for £270 per tonne, delivered  Although I do only go through a tonne per month, so maybe I'm not bulk enough to qualify for extra discounts 

Liz - I was quoted £360 per tonne for BOCM Pauls, so £250 isn't that bad 

Ahh the joys ! At least my Kunes are easier on the hard feed

thats a bulk bag, i think but will find out small bags, i think they do 20s, so 50 in a tone are about 6£.
we do get a decent discount as we get a tone a month.

Have you tried Wynnstay Group plc in Powys? Unfortunately I don't have their phone no but you should be able to find them via Google and they were very competitive.

I buy a tote bag weighing 600kg of pig meal from a place called Broadoak in Carmarthenshire for £140 ish.  They make it themselves and it's lovely stuff my pigs scoff the lot

Oats (bruised/rolled) 15kg £3.25 or 500kg £92.00

Barley 20kg £4.80 or 600kg £121.20

Soy Husks    25kg £5.75( he did explain the nutrition to me but i got confused)

Bailey course mix 20kg £6.40 or 500kg £142.95

 

Bailey pig meal 20kg £6.20 or 500kg £135.70

Hafod own pig meal 600kg £135.00

 

He did say that he is intending to mix his own equine course mix and that it'll probably be cheaper than the Baileys one.  He also said that he has ordered sugarbeat but doesn't know the prices yet and it is due in today in bulk Hope this helps

They are rare breed welsh Pigs.

when comparing prices the big difference is the protein content the higher 22% will be dearer while 18% or 16% will be cheaper    the base price for feed wheat is £153 per ton with barley £155 per ton with regional variations                 soyameal is £272 per ton ex liverpool at 48% protein    bulk blower is the cheapest then ton bags  and 25 or 20 kilo bags the dearest  also if it has to go through a pelleter which adds to the cost
a lot of variables to factor in before a decision is made

Miss Piggy if you go to see David and his family they can give you the nutirtion list that is in the meal.  They make it for a commercial/large pig farmer that is local to us.  I do have the list but it is on the bottom of a 600kg bag lol and i've not got the energy to dig it out.

They are very good at their job and have a regular nutritianist in to give advice about differenc feed stuffs

We never had these problems years ago. Father's pigs were fed "chats" (spuds too small to use or sell), skimmed milk and a thing called "balancer meal". I don't know what went into that but we always had fine pigs.
