I have volunteered to knit 29 loo roll covers for a residential home, got to number 4 so far and already think I am mad. I have a cardigan on the go as well which should have been finished LAST May! My wheel has some gorgeouse Polworth though I have no idea what to do with the finished yarn yet as it is supposed to felt really easily

Make something lovely which won't be worn or washed very frequently, then when you do wash it do it very very carefully........

The thought of that wool is screaming a knitted rug (very fashionable) and over time it will felt all by itself. I wouldn't put it in a main traffic area but a bit of luxury in the bedroom

Sadly I only had half a fleece so not enough for a rug but any ideas what I could make that never or very rarely gets washed, I made a super soft scarf of alpaca and that is now very felted, I think just by wearing something made of Polworth is going to felt. Interestingly I have some merino in a pocket of my shoulder bag and that has felted and what friction could it have had, none that I can think of.

A muff?  Or... something felted?  :)

Felted (boiled) wool is all the rage so how about giving in to the inevitable.  You could make a huge shawl and carefully felt it smaller.  I wear shawls fequently indoors because our house is quite cold - a shawl is quicker to put on and off than a jumper.  I have felted knitted mitts but found it very difficult to work out how big to make them initially so that they would be the right size when felted.  They did work out ok.
Or I wonder if you could felt the yarn before you knitted it - that could affect the handle of the yarn differently than felting it after it's knitted or woven.  If you were to dye it, then it would become felted then anyway.
I'm trying to do a bit of lateral thinking here....... ::)  :D

I've just seen Sally's bit which she wrote while I was still cogitating, but the same idea  ;D

Umm felting the yarn sounds good but how do you wash it so it does not felt together? if i can do it the finished article should not felt again once knitted? Wrist warmers could work as they would felt as I wear them, but they would be better dyed first otherwise they would not stay white for as long as it took to felt while wearing. so many ideas now to pin just one down and try it. Either it will work really well or not at all. I tried felting slipper socks with shetland two of the colours felted really well but the third would not what ever I or friends tried and believe it or not it was from a sheep that was known to produce felted fleece while still on its back! I have roll boiled jacob with no side effects. things felt when I dont want them to and wont when I do LOL

Weyhey - finished my socks.....and I HAD made a mistake with the first one  :P   I'd missed a knit row between the decreasing rows on the toe end  ::)   So unpicked it and now both match  8)    They're drying above the aga at the moment so will take a pic when they're dry.    Dead chuffed and already started on the next pair - in an electric blue !!!

I have been crocheting a shawl for my sister for christmas.  I was half way through when last months Simply Knitting magazine arrived with a free shawl pin which matches perfectly.
