If hating Gypos/Pikies is racist, then yes I am, Big Time!
Of course it's racist. Why would anyone hate others from a different culture and expect that to be acceptable? 'Group extermination', you say, eh?...I don't think that would worry too many gypsy/travellers as they have experienced plenty of attempts at their extermination in the past. Indeed, they are still being moved on and have no rights to speak of even today.
In a (probably) vain attempt to educate you on the differences between the morals of the gypsies and those of the country hantle who hate them so, I suggest you consider such aspects as the drunken behaviour of non-gypsy women and girls, and their attendant entourage of salivating drunken louts, in towns and cities just about any night of the week, not to mention the mess left by them for others to clear up every day. Gypsy girls would never behave that way lest they bring disgrace upon their families. They won't let a drop of alcohol touch their lips until they are married. Nor will they indulge in indescriminate sex either before or after marriage.
The behaviour of non-gypsy males when cavorting around in some foreign resort, binge-drunk, simulating sex in the street with their mates, running in loud-mouthed mobs in their pathetic efforts to attract some loose tart into spending a night with them, would be frowned upon by gypsy men and boys. Oh, they get drunk alright, and they fight amongst themselves, but they still have self-pride and a sense of self-respect.
I have been to Appleby and Ballinasloe fairs and I have associated with gypsies and travellers for a long time. I have to say I feel safer in their company than I have in any town or city at night. I have worked in public houses where I made it clear that travellers could have a quiet drink like anyone else as long as they behaved themselves, and I never had any trouble.
Imagine what it must be like to be always on the back foot, wondering if you'll be moved on, trying to lead your life and look after your own in the knowledge that you are not welcome anywhere, your women are verbally abused in the streets, and your children are hated and victimised at school.
As a Scot, I have no difficulty identifying with oppression and being bullied by self-righteous and belligerent neighbours. Perhaps, for the gypsies, the boot has been laced onto the other foot and the gorgio are just getting the kick up the arse they deserve. It's only fair after all, you know...what goes around, comes around.
