Morning all

I've been trying to get my other half to build an egg for sale box for me for months so I can put at the garden gate but it just keeps getting put off.

I've been looking to buy one but I can't find anywhere that seems to sell them. Any ideas?

I was thinking just like a very small shed with an area for the eggs and a box for people to drop money in.

Visit second hand furniture shops ....  bedside cupboard type  should do ?

We have a simple box with a lid, attached to the fence with hefty bolts, plus a flat bit the same size to put your handbag on when you're fossicking for coins.  We only have a couple of boxes of eggs for sale at any point, so don't need a bigger affair.  The money goes into an open tray, which has spare coins in for change.  The box has 'eggs' painted on the lid.  It's very wet here and occasionally rain blows in under the lid, so our egg boxes have to be put into small plastic bags which I would rather didn't happen, but they serve the double purpose of stopping the eggs being dropped if there's an earwig in - which happened to the postie    - all smashed  .


We had a more complicated affair when we used to put out veg, jam etc, but people like the very simple box. Oh and no-one ever cheats

We just use a little tin with lid alongside the eggs. no extra security has been necessary.

Here is ours made out of a pallet. You can’t see it but the honesty box is behind the sign. Put 2 boxes up a day and they sell within an hour!

We sell ours at £1.50.   What does everyone else charge?  We've not upped our price for a couple of years, but we have had to buy new hens so there's no profit, just a justification for me keeping my lovely birds.

We got a tortoise hutch for £23.
My son painted it and made a sign. He collects, dates and packs the eggs. He keeps half the money and gives us the other half towards costs...

We charge £1 per half dozen, we discussed raising the price but that would mean people having to find oddments of change, a £1 is easier all round.

Wow. If you're undercutting Tescos, no wonder it's difficult to make even a poultry profit.

We used to  use a medium sized plastic cool box with a sign on top and a jar inside for the money. In Summer we put ice packs on the bottom to keep the eggs cooler.

We sell ours for £1 for half dozen. Its to cover costs only (feed costs not capital outlay). Have to admit its for the fun of keeping the chickens
