Snag is Gary as I see it you have to have now't ter git inter the system. You have some lambs so you have money It don't matter your bank manager says you have none he don't know he's a fool.We know you have money else you would not have lambs and what do you feed them on They (The Big Brother Mob) know every thing they think and it is one of the most difficult things to do convince them different. If you can manage it you are away.Nothing is to much trouble They offer help all round but you must ask and ask the right question. They will tell you nothing if you don't do it their way.Acquiring a Blue Badge is a good start if your doctor will support you in this That proves you are poorly and need help.It is not the be all and end all but it is very usefull as well as being good for parking Give the system a try mate you never know your luck in a draw ;D ??? ;D :farmer:

Animal feed is very expensive nowadays, and you need to be making plenty of money off the animals and birds to make it pay.  I have around 5o laying hens, and then raise chicks, bantams and silkies to sell on.  The hen feed bill alone is a lot, and I am now cutting back on my poultry, and hopefully my feed bill.

Lamb prices were up a while back, not sure how things are now.  I know a lot of farmers round us are struggling to keep going on their farms, and a lot have come out of the milk business, and diversified.  Golf driving ranges, livery horse yards, bowling greens, caravan sites,  farmers are doing all these things instead of farming.

Thinking about it, I am about the biggest hen keeper for quite a few miles, in fact not sure where my nearest neighbour with hens is, so that shows, people cannot afford to keep them any more.  Let me do it, and buy my eggs - sensible people eh?

Gary, sounds like you have a lot of health problems, and it must have been a struggle in the winter to keep going and feed all those birds.  Bad enough for a healthy person to cope with.

You have plenty of good birds there.  Surely selling say half of them at least will raise you a bit of cash, and cut your feed bills, and work load.
I know you have to find something else to do instead, but at least selling will be a step in the right direction.

I have cut down my hens by about a third, due to the feed bills, and everything else like bedding, shavings, wormers, and not we are infested with red mite for the first time ever, so spent money on stuff to get rid of that.  And this week alone I have lost two silkie pullets and two more chicks have been taken - all pullets.  Why is it always the pullets that die/get eaten?  It sometimes makes me want to pack up completely.

Hi Gary, my OH has the same heart problem as you.  Like you money is a huge  MASSIVE issue now.  Only advice I can give is don't stress it doesn't ease the money worries and only adds to the health ones. Stress is counterproductive.  As my OH constantly reminds me its so easy to say, not so easy to actually do.  Hope things improve for you very soon.  HM
