Hi from Essex
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:33:29 pm »
  :chook: My name kaz.
I am new to chickens, well when I say new I mean , never owning any.
I think they are lovely, and such beautiful pets.
I have decided to own some my self , But first I need to get a home and run first.
Really did not know how expensive chicken houses are. Who, and were are the best.
Love the web site
Talk soon.

Hello and welcome Kazchick!!

I have a lot of hens .....and other animals too.  I am involved in ex battery hen rescues, so please consider having some of the lovely hens from one of the rescues.  If you look on the website, there are details there. Probably you will not have your house ready in time for the next rescue on 24th July, but they are on a regular basis

Hi Kaz,  :chook:
I used to live in Essex - now in Norfolk. I've had my chooks for about a month now & have received invaluable help from the kind people on here.
I bought a coop from Chicken Coops Direct (£179) - a lovely well-made coop with a run, but they recommended it for 4 hens and I think it's too small for 4 - although my Orpingtons are larger than some hens. I ended up buying what they call a "lad's shed" from B & Q for about £75 and then the Ol' man built a lovely run around it. We sort of modified it by turning the side of the shed where the window should have been upside down & screwing the nest box from the "proper" coop on to the space where the window hole is.... (Ingenious huh?) It works pretty well, I think.

 Hi SLI, what a good and clever idea. Iv had a look at hen houses, and yes the look lovely , but i think your idea is worth investigating, after all the house has to be .big enough. I don't want to get a chicken house, then end up wanting more chickens , and the house to small. I like the idea of rescue to, Saw some silks  yesterday , hope i spelt that right , beautiful birds, Hope you like living in Norfolk.

Hi Kaz,
I LOVE Norfolk & I'm glad you like the idea we had. Just thinking about adding some more chooks to my 4 girls......I was told it becomes addictive!  :chook:  ;)
