Bird flu for small flock keepers (free talk)  on Sat Jan 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM GMT.

Hi everyone,

Are you worried about bird flu? Struggling to find information? Having difficulties with your poultry now they are in a smaller space? Unsure of the requirements for owners?

Due to the extension of the bird flu prevention zone from one month to three months (to the end of February at present), we are doing a free, live, online talk, and taking your questions on Saturday 14th January at 2pm (this Saturday). This will include a Q and A - for your questions.

Thanks go to Liza Donaldson of Scottish Smallholders Association, who requested this talk – the SSA will be holding an in-person SSA meeting in Ayr too, which will link to the talk by projector.

Thanks also to Rosemary and Dan Champion for allowing me to use the TAS forum to offer information, and for all their support.
The APHA have been informed about the talk.

If you are in other parts of the country, please don’t let the fact that it’s online put you off – it’s very easy to join, all you need to do is **scroll down to the invitation below and click the link to register – that’s the important bit!** , OR email me at caroline.robinson@sac.co.uk, and I will send you an e-invitation directly. You will then be sent a joining link and reminders before the event on Saturday!

There is a free Go To Webinar app you can download onto your ipad, iphone etc to make it even easier (and portable!) too if you like.

If you’ve never tried an online talk before – give it a shot, it’s surprisingly easy and we’ll hopefully be able to help you and your flock towards better health and less stress while the prevention zone is in place.

Register now by clicking this link (or emailing me): it's first come first served I'm afraid - the places are limited to 100. If there are lots of people that can't get in, I'll try my best to do another one - best to bag your place now though.

Description:

We have been receiving many queries from smallholders and small farmers who are concerned about the extension to the avian influenza protection zone, and who would like some advice on the measures they can take to ensure the safety of their flocks.
Here Caroline Robinson (SAC Consulting: Veterinary Services Investigation Officer) will explain more about this protection zone, due to run for at least another seven weeks, discuss where best to find advice, and advise how to adapt to your flock's changed welfare, feeding and environmental needs during this time.
This webinar is live - and will include a Q and A session to address your own queries.

Thanks go to APHA for input into this discussion, the Scottish Smallholder's Association's Liza Donaldson for requesting this meeting and for organising a physical location in Ayr, and to the Scottish Government who have funded this activity through their Public Good Veterinary and Advisory Services.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Hi,

Just to clarify in response to a couple of emails - it's a talk by Scotland's Rural College/ SAC Consulting Vets.
NB we are not an organisation which put the prevention zone in place, and we are not involved in enforcing the regulations, so this talk, and Q and A session, will not be a forum for discussions of policy or registering complaints; but, as disease, livestock farming and smallholding specialists we can give you good quality information about bird flu and what the prevention zone means, where to find reliable, clear information and how to look after your flock's health and welfare during the period of the prevention order.

Have a good day, hope to see some of you logging in on Saturday, about a third of the seats have gone in the last 24 hours.
