Pot 'mums - can I plant out?
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:24:14 pm »
I was given a pot crysanthemum but I keep forgetting about watering it, so I was wondering if it would be OK to plant out in the garden? that way I would water it when doing the veg!
I'm not very good with flowers  :-[

plant it out in a terracotta pot just sink the whole pot into the garden. keeping the roots 'tight' will encourage early flowering and keep the growth in check, bring it in and overwinter it just moist until janary feb then put on a windowsill and take cuttings from the new growth... perpetual plants that way for free!!

Thanks Ian & Annie

I might just re-pot it and put it near my polytunnel, that way I can enjoy it and won't forget to water it!

I'm really quite hopeless with flowers! Fruit & Veg on the other hand...... ;D

I am so glad I saw your post!  Just in exactly the same position - had to drown the poor thing this morning as it was withering in my conservatory - much better idea to put it outside!  Thanks.

I've had a better idea - my Nan is babysitting tonight and staying over (hubby & I off to a local apiary to find out about beekeeping) so I'm going to give it to her as a thank you! Saves me bothering with it!
