Anyone out there any idea how to get rid of brambles when you can't actually reach them to dig all the root out? I have several really big brambles close to the roots of some nice shrubs and it looks as though I'd have to dig up the shrub to get to all the brambles roots. There are also a number of them growing out of the bottom of the stone wall. Any advice would be much appreciated thanks.

.........but be prepared to loose ALL your plants, not just the brambles

I think there's stuff you can get that's injected into the roots, after you've trimmed off all the branches that will rot them and make it easier to get them out - tends to be used by tree surgeons for getting rid of stumps - it might be worth looking into.

Hi,
What you require is brushwood killer, made by DOFF, available from smaller garden centres. You will have to be quite selective in your application, it is systemic so a localised spray on the brambles should do it, by the way it doesnt kill grass. I use it in the paddock for nettles and brambles, sometimes needs a second application if they are well established. hope this helps
