Good grief what a program on how not to do something dearie me Who but a Pratt and I've spelt that wrong Annie should start with a T allows himself to be crushed against the rails by a fully grown Belgian cross He deserved to swear Hes lucky he still could.Do you know any woman that would even think about allowing messing about like they do.I thought about sending Kate a short end of stainless pipe she didn't seem to get on to well with a bit of straw How do you think real shepherds go on.It really made me want to weep.Put them in the lambing pen and let the girls get on with it.If you can see ones in difficulty go and help her by all means ??? ??? ??? :farmer:

I was told to watch my ewes but only intervene if they need assistance, or they have been pushing for a while and getting tired so would need help. I think the programme has a lot going on just for the audience, seemed to me any ewe nearing to lamb was internally checked for correct presentation then hand delivered. With no obvious hand washing/sterilising! but its a nice programme for those that have no idea at all, just giving a few wrong messages I think anyway!

it's interesting seeing how people do things differently. I have only lambed my flock once and only have 18 sheep. 1 lamb needed turning and one stopped breathing so needed a bit of stimulating but apart from that i didn't help at all. Yet on my neighbours farm where they have 1500 sheep he pulls loads out even when they're normal presentations because there are so many to get through. Horses for courses.

To answer the original post, I found Kate to be a bit 'loud'. Don't know how she sounded to the sheep but thought they might've been waiting for her to go away so they could give birth in peace & quiet.  :)

Still, for those of us who are complete newbies to keeping sheep (i.e. me), I'm finding the idiot questions and Kate's learning experience very useful & am taking mental notes - though, hopefully, my relatively 'primitive' Shetlands will not be as problematic as the 'mules' (fingers crossed).

We first timers with lambing.  Unfortunately, this programme came a bit too late for us to gen up, as our lambs started arriving at the end of January lol.  However, there are several things we can take for it, the fostering, different colours for ewe lambs  and rams (yes i know the marking thing sound s obvious, but we hadnt thought of it  ::) ) Also as i said earlier the breed descriptions were interesting, nd i found the sheep psychology test really fun :D  Kate is great but a bit too much for me, I much prefer Adam, hes a natural and has a great way of explaining things, and has a lovely way about him, and no i dont fancy him either :D

I was told to watch my ewes but only intervene if they need assistance,

Quite right - for the best outcomes remember "Maximum observation, minimum intervention".
Yet on my neighbours farm where they have 1500 sheep he pulls loads out even when they're normal presentations because there are so many to get through.

Having a lot of sheep is no excuse for that - put yourself in the ewe's position!
