"Push Chair" Is a bit smallholding related..honest!
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:44:46 pm »
:-[ :-[Could do with a push chair suitable to take my pup out when we go out to the woods with mummy dog and uncle dog!!! and NO I have NOT  lost my marbles, I am very serious...I have been suffering loads of joint pain and stiffness so been unable to take our male lab out as he is far too unpredictable and I have also been in a lot due to the pups, most are going this weekend!!! Anyway, I need to go out for some short, yet nice walks and thought I would put the pup in the push chair and go with my OH...I don't mind looking silly :-[ P.S Pink would be nice, with pink covers and little pink teddy ;) ;) ;) ;)Must be fairly near to Clackmannan...not going miles to collect!!

If I do get a push chair (local tip will NOT let me have one from there!!)I promise I will post, it's only for until she is old enough to go a bit further, mabe for 6 mths, I can harness her in and cover her well so she should be safe!!! I am suffering from lack of excersis at the moment...I do get to do a lot but not walk any distance.....I'm no shrinking violet!!

Good luck trying to keep a healthy, active lab pup in a pushchair.

Maybe it would be better to leave her at home?

Well, I've already told Sandy I won't be seen with her pushing a pup in a pram! ;)  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Bobby has been taken out for short walks - on his own, so he can be socialised with my full attention on him. And sometimes with his mother.  The others will go on their usual free running round Gartmorn Dam as that's the only safe place to let mine off.  They go REALLY fast.  And I certainly wouldn't be able to find straps strong enough to keep a Brittany in a pram   ;D ;D ;D

Oh Sandy - you have given me a laugh  ;D ;D ;D
Maybe I missed something, but is the point of taking the dog for a walk not that she actually walks  ??? Having tried to push pushchairs and prams along farm tracks I would reckon that trying to push it through woodlands would cause you more discomfort than just walking - unless you get a special 'off road' buggy it is VERY hard going.
Please don't be offended, and like everyone else - I want to see the photos  ;D ;)

Sandy you should listen to how Annie socialises her pups, its the way I do it too. One on one so pup gets full attention and not free running or you could damage the hips and will 'run off' bone. The first few walks on a lead means generally the pup takes us for a walk with gentle guidance of course.  ;D

Seriously Sandy if the pup decides to jump from the pushchair she will land on her head or jaw, they are the heaviest parts and the legs are not strong enough at her age to support the jump from say 2 feet high. If she hits her jaw on the floor then that could break or her teeth will be damaged and we all know how much damage can be done to her head.

Have you ever thought of owning a Maltese Terrier or some such breed? Im sure they would love to be carried or pushed around.  ;D

I think EVERYONE has missed the point!!! I know I can take her out on her own and socialise her, I have had lot's of pups in my life, its ME, I want to go out with the other dogs and my spine has been far too bad to go to far twisting with a lead. I have very limited times I can leave the Bed and Breakfast, 1 due to the cleaning and 2 due to guests comming and going so I would feel more confident with my partner with me. Devilla Forest has been laid so wheelchairs can use it and so has the old railway line, I plan to take her for a short walk and then put her into the "container" as Labradors are far too heavy to carry, she has a harness and we can clip her onto the strap holders, I know she may try to get out, if so, I will either take her out and go back to the car or tighten the reins. We had a small dog that I ended up carrying on walks when he was younger!!! We have a lovely walk 300yards from the house........P.S I have seen many dogs catching lifts from push chairs!!!!  SO what about this idea then :_ ;)

LOL ! Sandy - I KNEW you were mad :o  ;D ;D ;D

But now you've explained that bit I understand where your coming from, especially if the paths are wheelchair friendly ;) I hope you manage to get a pram (I'd offer you mine, but I'm going to need it again soon  ;))

I think we can all see the problem, Sandy, honestly. :-[  You can only go out with the big dogs in the late afternoons, evenings or weekends when Steve is home and you'd prefer to take all three with you. But I think we can all see the funny side of it so much more. ;) ;D  I'm sure no-one means to offend though  :-[

There is a solution though.  You and I can take the pups out for a lead walk in the daytime - just them and us, they only need about 15 minutes a day, perhaps less if they get tired in the first couple of months. And Rohan can be in the dog room with Ben and Islay during the day, with access to the bottom section of your garden or further up when you are with them.  Then the pups can sleep for an hour - perhaps with their tea with them, while you and Steve, and perhaps me, go for longer walks with the adult dogs!  That is plenty of exercise for her till she is about six months.

If you used the push chair idea it would be too tempting just to let the pup out, and it does do untold harm to young limbs and bones to over exercise.  Bobby is allowed to run in the front garden (half an acre) for five minutes at a time, possibly three or four times a day, and that will be the same till he is at least 6 months.  And some of that time is training to recall, sits, stays and retrieving, introduction to the ducks and chickens.  Then he is taken in and put in his pen to sleep.  He gets out a few times during the day to play with his Mum and Uncle, so is getting plenty of exercise.
But in the end of the day it's up to you.  I WAS joking too - I would come with you if you decide on the pushchair

I was going to suggest those pink dolls' ones, and then I realised they are a bit low, and you'd look even more daft pushing one of them  ;D What about a modified trolley shopping bag? Freegle is definitely a good place to get one - either a pushchair or trolley bag. Am I allowed a quiet giggle at the thought? Tee hee
