I posted last night that 1 of my Pygmy's was unwell and we had called the vet out. Well, he was this morning rushed in to the vets for treatment. Another 3 of my goats are now showing signs if being unwell too, but very early signs. We have discovered that the buggers have broken a fence down and eaten a Laurel Tree and started on another, both trees are now history but as they are a neighbours we had no idea they were there. I am now beside myself with worry.

oh James, thats dreadful to hear.  Goats being goats, and especially at this time of year when they crave anything green, will eat anything.....even something poisonous such as laural.  I will keep everything crossed for your goats.

Laurel isn't good, but its not as bad some poisonous plants/trees. Hopefully they will make a full recovery.

Thanks folks, today has been the day from hell. We had to have the vet back out a short time ago as I have 3 very poorly goats. The vet has done all they can so time will tell.

I've seen your goats lots of times, when we've popped in for a meal and they are lovely - i am so sorry & hope the rest recover.  i'm sure you'll not sleep much tonight worrying about them all.

(PS we were the folks that came for the 50th birthday meal in september for my husband if you remember)

Its a long shot but it may work.... Make up v strong black coffee and put in loads of sugar. This can in some cases act as a stimulent against laurel poisoning! I have no idea why it can possibly work but know a few people from the goat world who have found it useful!

Thanks Val. We know we have done everything possible to help these animals and now it is the waiting game.We have put some coffee out, everything is worth trying. Out of the 3 that we were worried about last night the GG kid is doing much better this morning - eating, drinking and playing. Her mum and one other is still not eating and very quiet but we have everything crossed that is possible to cross. Trying to run a business at the same time as looking after sick animals is so difficult as you are expected to constantly have a smile on your face and I just can't find a smile just now.
