This is my first year buying in my own ewe nuts. could you tell me what your paying for yours? pm's are fine if you don't want to post up details.
My local store is doing 25kg bags of premium ewe 18 nuts for £5.95 but i've no idea if this is a good price or not.

yes, if you are not buying in bulk then anything under £6 is a good price. (IMHO)


does of course depend on the quality of the ingredients, but yes, in general that is a good price.

I'm comparing the prices from mole valley. They start at 7.15 then I get 10p off per bag for bulk ordering but if i wait till february they are dropping the price by £1 making a total of £6.05.  So the other shop seems to be a fair price. I haven't even asked about a bulk order price. that is just what they have it advertised at.

As Foobar said it really does depend on ingredient quality whether that's a good price or not and its not that easy to understand and compare feeds straight off. CP % alone doesn't give you a great idea of whether its a good feed, but per bag that's not a bad price.

Its like baled silage "I've got silage £10 per bale" (its literally horse shite and woody stems, it will cost you a fortune in concentrates, twin lamb disease and general poor performance etc because its so bad) "I've got silage £20 a bale delivered" (many pennies but really good stuff) they are both selling bales of silage - which ones the con-man?

All you know for sure is you are getting a bag for £5.95! That being said it doesn't mean it is bad! Good luck

just to add. the 5.95 one is the same product my boss uses on the farm so its one we've used for years and i'm happy that its a good feed. I just wondered if the price was about right.

Looks ok to me!  Today I paid £7.77 per 25kg bag for 18% ewe nuts. However, that's in Central Scotland, and the prices always do seem a little higher here.

That all seems cheap. I buy from a Scats and I'm sure it was about £8.45 a few weeks ago for a bag. I will be going back at weekend for 5 so hope it's cheaper.

I use MVF Premier EWE 18% nuts, having compared quite a lot of feeds I thought this was was quite good in terms of ingredients and price.  Better than the BOCM shite.  It's tricky cos they can change the ingredients from year to year .   I was quoted £7.35 a bag a couple of weeks ago (from SCATS Bridgend), but I think they have 80p off on bagged feeds atm, so that would make it £6.55.  I'll be getting some next week, so fingers crossed it's around £6-something!

Ok, this is one of the times when I (briefly) wish I was living further south. I pay just under £10 for a 25kg bag of premium ewe nuts - beet nut pellets are about £1 cheaper.

from my local meal mill, course mix ewe and lamb nuts are working out at £32 for 100kg ..so £8 per 25kg....our calf nuts are working out at £18 for 100kg :0

We are paying £205/t for 18% protein, 12.5MJ, which is £5.12 per 25kg, and we are buying 6t at a time blown into hoppers - you need to buy 3t minimum from our suppliers, and in 25kg bags it would be an extra £40/t making it £6.12 kg, so as long as you're happy with the feed, sounds like you've got a good price for buying in small quantities.

For those pining for the lower prices in the South my nearest supplier sells BOCM for £9.24/25kg and A&P Smallholder for £8.90/20kg and those are the collect it yourself prices.

Just been into SCATS/MVF today - got 6 x 25kg bags for £6.35 each (that incls £1 off each bag promo).


And £8.80 got me a bag of Badminton Pedigree Sheep Mix at another smaller merchant.
