Perhaps that dog bed wasn't quite enough room for them all with hindsight. I see you mention roll bars - I have three more here to bring up if needed.

But they don't for some reason - Belle didn't either and she is an experienced mum.  You just have to jump up as soon as you hear a squeak.  I didn't sleep a complete night for a week after Belle had hers.  I'd settle down then I'd hear a squeak only to find one had just fallen asleep and dropped off it's perch but was still hungry.  i got used to waking up wide a wke and being able to go straight back to sleep again.  Mind you I do that with the trains anyway.

Well I could hear the pups through the serving hatch but now I have moved a put me up bed into the kitchen......I will sleep next to Isaly for now and see how it goes, I have moved the pups several times, she has loads of room in her box and sits up to clean them then lays back on top of those who have crawled under her!!! I know pigs can go into a crush but thats a bit difficult with dogs ;)Well, I may look a bit rougher for a while!!

You're doing all you can do, Sandy.  Will pop up tomorrow if I get the car started, need to go for chicken food, and puppy food anyway.  I don't know what you mean either Calum.  You can be a bit obtuse at times. Sandy and I are always nice, ain't we Sandy?

you spelt it right!  My spell checker says so.  Right that's me off to bed, pups exercised and fed, floor de-pooped and scrubbed, all big dogs out and back in.  A hot cuppa and electric blanket for me.  Goodnight.

Congrats on the safe arrival of the pups Sandy. Lovely pics, mum and babies look so sweet.  ;D

Dont beat yourself up about the 'lost' pup as I have a 4ft by 4 ft whelping box with roll bars and when I was asked to whelp a rescue bitch for the Golden rescue she had 13 pups. As is the norm with me I was with the bitch 24/7 for 3 weeks, sleeping at the side of the box etc and the first night I decided to go to bed to sleep the bitch lay on one and smothered it!!

So what Im saying is it may have happened whatever whelping space you had or whatever you did.

Thanks 13, wow!!! I have been with Islay most of the day and night now and just herd a pup cry, Islay sat and just froze, I told her to stand up and tried to lift her but she was so stubborn, of course I did lift her off but it upset her a bit,not sure what approach to take...last night she rolled onto the pups several times, then they make a row when they cannot find the teat so I am  up and down although mananged a good 2hrs without either me wanting the loo, the fridge waking me up or the pups!! The box I have now is 3ft by 27" I shall be shattered until they are big enough, then the work is different, just ordered a very large puppy pen to contan the chunky labs!!
