Kit for working pony
« on: October 07, 2014, 08:45:12 am »
I'd love to get my 2.5 yr old Spotty pony (10hh ish) started with doing some work (obviously not pulling weight until next year). Have walked him out lots and he's very quiet and easy to do. Nothing phases him. Have lead him whilst pushing a full wheel barrow etc.

Think I've found a small harness, but need something for him to pull. All I can find are exercise buggy type things (want one as well as would love to drive him) but need something to load up with hay and water etc eventually. Where would I find such a cart/drey or what ever its called?

Try dragondriving.co.uk, often lots of carts available there, often flatbed trolley types

I would get your pony long reining and then have him pull a tyre about to get him used to the noise and drag over different surfaces.  Just remember that tyres do become airborne if cornering at speed.

Thanks for the replies! Am progressing to longlining- just need to find a roller that fits as he is small... Just thinking about the future.

I'd love a saddle chariot but they are a bit £...

You get what you pay for ;)  Its exceptionally light and can be turned into all sorts of uses, go anywhere, doesn't rust ,releases instantly and is about the same price as some other well known makes that are heavy and don't do these things ;D
