It looks easy enough but doesn't take into account the fact that since I have been keeping hens I have been unable to eat chicken. Help!

I do a similar thing with rabbits.  If you like your chicken like that fine.  Me! I like a bit of skin.  Killed my first birds this weekend.  No regrets but carried them very dignified back into the house.  Tasted great.  As I said to the boyfriend's family - they had a better life that a Tesco bird.  No trouble with them eating it up.  Curry tonight with leftovers.

yup, this is an option if you dont want the skin, and might be a solution to getting feathers everywhere on a windy day that dont dissapear for a year

just skinned and jointed the first cockeral, took just under an hour, but hope to get that down by at least 1/2 maybe 3/4s, a bit of advice, if you think the hook you hang it from is enough think again it needs to be strong enough to swing from, pulling the last bit of skin off was a heavy pull. will still do birds the other way but for casorolls and curries this may be best, also managed to do it in conservatory as its been raining all day, couldnt do plucking and gutting indoors. purchased a good boneing knife and had a good clevar, both worked well.

after doing one i think it might be better just to cut the breasts and thighs off first and just pull the skin and feathers off.
