Just put the tup in
« on: October 31, 2013, 09:47:18 am »
Well as the title says, Tonto has gone in with the girls this morning. He seemed keen and tried it with one of them in the first few seconds although didn't get the deed done as she kept moving away. The others are the same and after chasing them around the field a bit everyone has settled down to eating the grass.

When the girls are ready will they stand for him or are the tups always given the runaround?

Exciting!  The girls should stand for him when in season.  My ram always does that too when he is first let in with the girls.  He chases them all around and tries to jump all of them in turn - more in hope than them actually being in season!  However when the girls are in season they are extremely flirty with him!

I hope Tonto throws some lovely lambs for you next Spring.

Thank you both. That's put my mind at rest.

I thought they might like some privacy too so I will spend most of the day watching from the window  ;D

BTW don't worry if you don't see any conclusive action when staring out the window  :innocent:  I had a ram who I never saw perform really . All of his ewes produced identikit CurlyWurly lookalikes come April time every year

Is he raddled?

Never actually seen the tup do the business but can tell as each ewe is ready because he becomes very attentive and follows that ewe all day. The actual act is over in a flash ..... so the local farmer tells me so you may not spot it unless you are in the window a lot   ;D

He is raddled but a lot seems to have worn off already. One girl has it on her face so not sure what he was up to, still he is only a lamb so learning.  :roflanim:

Are you using a harness or just the raddle paint?
