Well as the title says, Tonto has gone in with the girls this morning. He seemed keen and tried it with one of them in the first few seconds although didn't get the deed done as she kept moving away. The others are the same and after chasing them around the field a bit everyone has settled down to eating the grass.
When the girls are ready will they stand for him or are the tups always given the runaround?
-
Exciting isn't it! Mine went in yesterday :excited:
When the girls are ready they will stand for him

Exciting! The girls should stand for him when in season. My ram always does that too when he is first let in with the girls. He chases them all around and tries to jump all of them in turn - more in hope than them actually being in season! However when the girls are in season they are extremely flirty with him!
I hope Tonto throws some lovely lambs for you next Spring.

Thank you both. That's put my mind at rest.
I thought they might like some privacy too so I will spend most of the day watching from the window ;D

Oooo yes, it does sound a bit funny now that I read it back :roflanim:

BTW don't worry if you don't see any conclusive action when staring out the window :innocent: I had a ram who I never saw perform really . All of his ewes produced identikit CurlyWurly lookalikes come April time every year

Hope Tonto does well and we see lovely piccies of rylands lambs come spring :excited:
-
Nemo's still mooching along the fenceline; sometimes the girls come and flirt with him ;D
Soon be the 5th.

Is he raddled?
Never actually seen the tup do the business but can tell as each ewe is ready because he becomes very attentive and follows that ewe all day. The actual act is over in a flash ..... so the local farmer tells me so you may not spot it unless you are in the window a lot ;D
-
He is raddled but a lot seems to have worn off already. One girl has it on her face so not sure what he was up to, still he is only a lamb so learning. :roflanim:

Are you using a harness or just the raddle paint?
-
Good luck Tonto and come spring there will be plenty of lovely ryeland lambs for you Sally. :fc: julian

I hate using raddle paint as it is so messy and needs renewing often. It seems to get everywhere other than where it should go. :( Good luck with your tupping. :fc:
I've just sold three of my senior rams, new boys on the block now.

our portland lad been in with his girls 2 weeks now and covered most just changed raddle paint and we now have 2 ewes with orange bums and green faces lol think they must rub on him as they follow him around alot, the raddle paint is messy but didnt find the harness maked them very well seems to fade quick.

We are not putting ram in yet but only cos of logistics. Want to get the two ram lambs away first, also have someone prob buying 13 head tomorrow but they wont go til next week plus 3 going to my vets flock next week too- we will be down to under 20 head then including the remainng lambs, so makes it all easiet to organise!

we only put our Ram in so we have earlyish lambs for registering as we are hoping :fc: to show them
