Any ideas for a man's anniversary gift
« on: July 31, 2013, 11:53:38 am »
Hi all - it's our 10th wedding anniversary on Friday and as usual I am really struggling to find a gift that will be appreciated by hubby.  10th wedding anniversary is either tin/pewter or diamond - so his gift for me should be easy given the second option  :innocent:

Anyway - the usual suggestions include all things like cuff-links, wines, money clips etc - all of which would have no interest to hubby whatsoever.

I thought as there are lots of gentlemen on here with similar interest in livestock and the environment you might be able to come up with some suggestions of something you would appreciate receiving.  Up to and around £50?

My husband is no small holder but he too love plants as gifts, an unusual tree even? I had a Hazel Nut tree as a present and love it, suppose to ward off evil spirits as well :innocent:

I love the plant/tree idea but we might be moving soon - just waiting to hear back from the council on a tenanted farm we have applied for you see.

Maybe I could get him a voucher from a good nursery to buy a good specimen when we know if we are moving or not.

What about a nice extra special tool  :innocent: ....we love vouchers for garden centres, they are always handy and always needed..in fact our last voucher went on a posh spade but my husband broke it digging a hole for a pond that's now filled in

That's possible - but he is a gardener by trade so wouldn't seem much of a gift!!

I suppose not.......mind you, I love a good special pen knife....one with loads of special bits for cleaning  your nails and getting splinters out...........I did  have a Swiss army knife once but lost it!! loved it, you  could even get it engraved......although vouchers are more sensible as then he can get what he wants as a treat........we bought some roses as well once......then of course there is always other garden stuff like chairs, hammocks, lighting, burners, depends on how much you want to spend and what he likes, even a nice hip flask or good thermos....men can be much more difficult!!!

Swiss army knife is a good idea which I'm sure he could get lots of use from - will have a look online and see what I can find.

Have also found a couple of good nurseries nearby that do vouchers - any suggestions on a good, native tree that would look good as a specimen tree but not too big?  If it is also good for wildlife then even better!

special Swiss Army knife

You can have it engraved for not too much more, and I have to say that the saw is excellent - will easily cut through branches 1" thick.

There is a range, not as expensive as the one above - type in 'Wenger hardwoods' into the search box at the top.

  Thanks for your help everyone - swiss army knife with engraving now ordered.  This forum always comes up trumps for advice and ideas from like-minded people.

I know it's not 'tin' but it's metal so near as damn it!!

I was stuck on this a couple of years back! in the end I bought a Cornish Tin VW camper van that holds 2 bottles of wine - all my hubbies interests (bar guitars) rolled into one. Men are so hard to buy for!!

That sounds lovely too - my hubby is not a great wine drinker either though - these men are impossible aren't they?  Have seen loads of stuff I'd like whilst searching!!
