I don't remember it, but my Mum used to say that my Gran's friend asked me that question and I immediately answered 'A farmer's wife'.  never quite made it, but there's time yet - anyone know any good looking farmers?  I don't 'do' ugly.  ;)

Next thing i remember is wanting to go in the Army Pay Corps at 17 and my Dad wouldn't sign the papers - 'No daughter of mine going in the army' he said.

So I drifted into accountancy at 18.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Always alway always (except for a few weeks) wanted to be a Nurse!!!!! I was going to join the QA's (Navy) but was too young so stayed on at school to further my qualifications and worked after school in a cafe....then, the owner of the cafe asked me if I wanted to run it for him, I said NO, I was going to be a Nurse, then he sold the business to my Mum and Dad so I felt obliged to run it with my mum and boy were we successful, I worked sooooooo hard, up and out for 7.00am to serve loads of fry ups and teas for workmen and coaches as it was on a busy Bus station, in those day's people smoked in the cafe and with the greasy chip fat arhhhhhhhhhhhhh! and Hong Kong Flu, I became very ill for ages, when I eventually got better I knocked being a Nurse on the head as I did not want to catch anything like that again.....went on in similar field anyway, care work, social work, youth work, drugs work, Alcohol work and of course this B&B, back to fry ups but, thank God, no smoking!!!!!!!!

I wanted to be a vet; didn't get good enough Higher grades; was persuaded by Careers Service to study agriculture at Uni (I wanted to do catering and hotel management); was fed up, stayed with my uncle who was a shepherd for a weekend, saw an ad in The Scottish Farmer for a student and went there for a year. Knew at the end of second year Uni that I was doing the wrong course - stuck it out then went into catering, to HR and training, to admin. management to smallholding.

I wanted to be a gardener or a farmer.

50 years later I have a farm and are a part time head gardener having spent 40 years working my way up through the ranks of horticulture and saving enough with a bit of judicial property selling to buy this place.
Happy bunny :) but sometimes to knackered to enjoy it all. :farmer:

Farming is in my family on both my mum and dads side, although they both had different jobs once they married.  I always wanted a farm  ever since I was small (had to be this farm though, the one I am at!)  I also wanted to work with horses, but my Dad said it would be a poor wage......so I said I would go to catering college as I love cooking and baking.  Dad jumped in again, and said I would be better getting qualifications in secretarial work......so went to college for two years and became a PA.  I still yearned for a job outside, on a farm, and would sit gazing out of the office window, wishing I could be anywhere but there!!

I have always wanted to have a teashop, making homemade cakes etc ......my OH would love a cafe, as he enjoys making bacon butties etc.

I was one of those kids that didn't really know what to do. First I wanted work with horses, but was great at riding always ended up on my a..e. Careers councillor tried to persuade me to work for the gas company as there were plenty of jobs there.
Then decided I wanted to be a police woman went to Hendon College and was told after a week my eye sight was too poor (no a days you could be told that!) Worked for my Dad for a while in his shop, but the hours used to kill me 7 - 6, 6 days a week. Then worked in an office in the West End - thought I was the bees knees.
Realised at 20 I shouldn't live at home, but didn't know how to get out.  Read an ad for nursing and became a student nurse!!!!!!!!!!  Wow how much fun did I have?  Qualified, worked my way through the ranks, realised nurses didn't have a say in what goes on in hospitals so went into management.
Managed Emergency and Medicine (eventually) which I loved - deep in the heart of the roughest bit of London - gun shots/knife wounds and 7/11 - it was amazing.
Then realised I needed to do something mad so moved to Ireland ran 2 nursing homes - bored me rigid so now manage two radiotherapy centres and look after my new bit of land and veg, hoping to expand to animals as I get settled. End
Course I did the usual and got married, baby, divorce etc in between!!!

Not much of a life when you can write it in a couple of paragraphs - what shall I do next?

I always wanted to work with horses, trained as a riding instructor but found this boring and went into stud work  and breaking and schooling, enjoyed working with young horses much more than I did people. Have not changed much over the years.  ;)

I always wanted to be a vet, but............got in "with the wrong crowd", got asked to leave school, end of story....

Fell pregnant aged 17 (tut tut) and then had meaningless factory jobs!

Got a new job as a bouncer (steward) and met my husband, who had a farm "out in the sticks", where we now live.

Now I am a vets assistant, midwife, tractor driver, mechanic, maintenance man, dogsbody, mother, taxi driver of kids, money machine(also for kids), laundry assistant and numerous other titles!!

I may not be a vet, but I'm pretty close!

I can see a pattern here about the working with animals but sorry i am gona buck the trend.

When i was younger i wanted to be an opera singer (but i get real bad stage fright if on my own on a stage)

Then once i got older i wanted to be a phisio, massage threapist,
then work in alternative therapy /Aromatherapy,
Then enviromental  and IT areas (got qualifications in this)

Don't want to do any of the above now but still interested in them have no idea where my life is taking me at the moment but i know i want to be my own boss in what ever i do (cos i am fed up being treated like a skiffy for not much credit)

Linz

It came to a head (the not working for a boss)while i worked in a supermarket while studying for my degree, I was told/order that i had to do over time as i had my holiday from university and i told them to go jump polity.

I never wanted to BE anything ...apart from older ...lol.  Well I got my wish there  !!! I just always did jobs that allowed me to do what I wanted  . Still doing that really , I have what I want and I earn just enough to do what I want . No boss to tell me what to do !!!!, like you Linz , I hate the way you get treated like something on the bottom of their shoes....I don't bow to authority very well at all ...well I don't full stop !!!! lol...suits me sir .... ::) ;D
