Sexist...
« on: November 21, 2012, 11:02:00 am »
I am not going to talk about religion BUT, when I saw a cleric from the Church of England say that God created the job of Arch bishops for men only in the same vien as only women can give birth!! I nearly spit my tea out, as i was not really watching the TV I did not take notice of who he was but how can anyone still think that?

Please, I am not discounted any religion just the attitude.

Then those wonderful Christmas adverts from all the supermarkets, I actually commented on one to my daughter, as a mum it was MY job to DO Christmas, I made decorations, all the food and crackers etc, bought all the presents and wrapped them, wrote the cards, I even got the children to make their grandparents cards, and i would write rhymes in the ALL the card I sent (possibly spelt all wrong ,knowing me)   I would go alone to all the concerts, shows, buy new outfits for the girls and me, clean the house from top to bottom and of course get everything just so for Christmas...all that cooking and planning....then I would wash up and start again for tea time......My husband did work hard but never appreciated just how much I did, now the adds are showing it all!!!!
I bet there are tons of men out there who do just as much at Christmas time, I know my son in law, does some cooking.....
Has equality gone wrong?

Totally agree with you Sandy - can't remember if it's Tesco, M & S or which - an ad about the woman doing all the shopping, cooking, wrapping etc for Christmas then he appears with a bottle of champagne and a couple of glasses - I thought that was definitely sexist as soon as I saw it!  It's not on!

Its all a bit mad given that the CofE is headed by a woman - so they can be the priests and the head of the church, but not 'middle management'.
Its so unnecessary given that the decision was taken years ago that there would and should be women bishops.

What was interesting was the House of Bishops were overwhelmingly in favour of it, the House of Clergy about 3:1 in favour, it was the House of Laity, ie representing lay people in parishes, where they failed to get the 2/3 majority needed.

So in a sort of way, it wasn't the actual Church people that were the problem, it was the parishes! Chauvinism alive and well in Middle England  ::)

I'm my opinion, those who have not "made it" to the position the hold in their view as "special" still love the old fashioned institution, keeping it all like it is, those that are practising want to move on into the real world......(my in father in law is a lay preacher but not sure of his views, maybe I should ask him, he is a lovely man so hope he would want women in such a high role  :fc: )
A lot of institutions try for change but those who love them hate that idea, thats just the type of people that will object to any changes.

It was the word "god made it so women should not have that role" that peed me off.......how on earth can anyone say that unless of course its about giving birth and one day maybe men WILL be able to do that!

There's a world of difference between biological differences and roles than anyone could play, because they depend merely on having a brain.

That cultural chauvinism should be perpetuated as 'tradition' or worse 'that's how God intended it' is appalling. No, that's how men intended it, and clearly have no intention of giving away any power.

Mind you, they're a bunch of irrelevant old farts anyway. I feel for the women who work in the Church, but apart from that, who really cares what they think these days.

What do you expect from a load of men dressed as women who believe in fairy stories.
Everyone makes mistakes as the Dalek said climbing off the dustbin.
