hi everyone,

we went for a drive into Wales yesterday and visited Llyn Clywedog Reservoir. Saw lots of gorgeous white sheep, not too big, some had horns and some didnt, can anyone tell me what breed they are please  :fc:

The far one could be a Shetland easily , but a poor one with a bare face and loose fleece. It should have real side burns and a tight roo to be a good one . Not to be kept as a ram but meat I should hope. It was a.fact that the Welsh bought a LOT of Shetlands at the sales for as little as £16.00 earlier in the month so could easily be one of those.

South Wales Mountain?  Welsh Mountain?  Or a cross of those?

Shetland x conmmercial ram... I have some that look nearly identical.... Shetland crossed to a Charollais' (mine are)... these look slightly less arrow-headed in the face so doubt a Charollais x...more a lleyn!
From 3 to 30 and still flocking up!

I wondered about a Welsh Mountain, or a cross, she's not quite like my Shetlands, even the ones wihtout the woolliest sideburns. Certainly she's small compared with that Suffolk tup!

Very few welsh mountain ewes have horns like that.

Tell me which farm it was on and I'll ask my neighbour what the farmer keeps.  Probably a cousin or school mate or something.

If you come back drop in for a cuppa you must have passed close by to get there!

unlikely to be Shetland because a) females on the mainland very rarely have horns and b) it's got a very long tail. Could be across of any of the dozen possibilties already discussed above...

I thought that even in Shetland crosses, the tail remained short?
