Girls, girls!!

Tallulah the Barnevelder is happy with her 2 chicks but low and behold anyone who goes close, she is nasty!!! 3 girls had to have antibiotics and there is a 6 week egg withdrawal on them, 1 is a blue egg layer (who hasnt laid yet!) The other 2 are Wyandottes, as I am fairly new to chickens I haven't worked out who lays which egg and so I have been throwing them away. As they have only been laying  1 or 2 a day it isn't too bad. I penned the 2 Wyandottes in thinking that it would solve the problem, but guess what they got out today, but worse still 6 eggs were laid, the most I have had since getting the girls! My husband says I need to build a better fence!! :chook:  :roflanim:

One way to tell who lays what is food colouring around the vents. Either do one at a time or get a range of colours.  The eggs come out streaked with dye.  Whole new take on multi coloured eggs ;)

What a good idea!  I'm trying identify non layers at the mo. Currently I am leg ringing anyone caught on a nest but this sounds a lot easier!
