Can you freeze pate?
« on: September 01, 2012, 08:40:55 am »
I ordered a small piece of pate yesterday in my delivery from the supermarket. I made specific notes for it to be about 100gr and no more than 150gr. 250gr arrived. OK so its not a huge amount but I am the only one who eats it. I just wanted a small bit for a couple of pieces of toast.
If I can freeze it then I will cut it into 3 and have 1 now and save the others for a later time.
thanks

We freeze freshly made pate without problem.

If it has been previously frozen the advice seems to be that you shouldn't refreeze it. Don't know if you can find that out though?

Thanks Dan, I think I will take the chance. Its only a small amount and only I will be eating it.

My OH often comes back from the supermarket with two or three packs of pate (No self control :innocent: )
I have learnt that the only way to stop most of it going off is to freeze one or two packs straight away and then take them out as we need them.

Never had any problems :) .

we made our own pate from our last pigs and it is superb. Most of it is now frozen, I have read somewhere that its ok to do. Have yet to defrost any though.

Yes you can definitely freeze it, and it is just as delicious after defrosting as fresh.  I make all our pig liver into several kilos of pate, and freeze it in approx 200 g lumps, otherwise we eat far too much in one go.   Tamsaddle
