Our old Fergie has been unwell, the hydraulics die a death and life was going to be difficult. We need her to move big bales of hay and straw and the muck heap to name but a few jobs she is used for. My OH decided that how hard could she be to fix. ( I am about to have a break down at this point. ) he had bought a DVD on the Fergie a while back so spent a few nights watching this. he also found someone on the internet with knowledge of our problem so taking her apart began. Over the past week parts were removed, cleaned and stored, new parts bought and today she was rebuilt. Not only does everything work again but far better than before. I think my OH is amazing. Never done anything like this before but he looked into all of it before starting and worked out what was what. How lucky am I to have such a clever wonderful man

Purchase a copy of Tractor & Machinery, better still, subscribe to it. Lots of adverts with old tractors and machinery that I can read for ever, plenty TE20 Fergys in there.

An excellent post! Made even more relevant by the fact we have just bought an old fergie with non working hydraulics, I hope I live up to your o/h's high standards!

My update on this subject is probably less than helpful because my prob was down to a seized quadrant control lever (the one you move from the seat). The old girl was just a bit stiff in her OAP years. Bit of strip and reassembly and she's lifting like a good un!!

My OH was a HGV mechanic before becoming a heating engineer , very handy for outdoor jobs and indoor jobs. I am really lucky, he has just restored a Fergie amongst other things and just installed two grandsworth of heating gear for labour free

. Dont you just love the OHs of this world, they do have their uses.
Ebay is a fantastic resource for finding original parts for Fergies.

The old stuff is still very good i have a Reno with a John Deere engine in it the service light is always on and for the cost its crap ,i do like the old John brown not the white but the red one perkins Lister engine very reliably haven't seen 1 for a long time .The fordson Maje a nother good 1

.....and here's our latest purchase....got it last week and it looks great (needs a paint job but pretty much in good condition)....we have the original bonnet which needs a bit of panel beating and will put that on eventually.....good fun and a firm friend already!
