Hi all,

My other half ison the look out for a cheap water butt that can be hooked up to a drain pipe for providing rainwater for her horse...... any suggestions???

I'm sure i'd seen a link on here from someone for a cheap one, but can't find it!!

get hold of one of the blue 45 gallon plastic drums off a farmer. Most will sell them for  £5 if they don't give it to you . Easy to either put a tap in or an overflow into a water trough .

oooooorrrr      if you want serious water storage for animal drinking storage and you dont want it to go yukky, buy a black 1000l ibc which is a large plastic container held in a metal framework, has different types of taps on the bottom and large filler on top. they must be properly cleaned before use and its a good idea if you can find out whats been in it. you can mount this in a trailer or pallets or on the floor. weve just bought one from ebay and collected it myself to save hi postage cost. £50.00 for black ones that are as good as new. this will solve problem of no permanent water trough in cattle field..............these have lots of applications for the smallholder....................neil

i got a couple of these off ebay stuck one in each of my greenhouses, they will supply them with taps too - but it's easy enough to drill a hole in them and connect up your own plumbing

think they hold 220 litres - which isn't too shabby

i'm getting a new shed built and i plan to get a few more of these to collect the rain water which i can then use to water teh raised beds
