cockerel offered - you are welcome to eat him! - Cambridge

In July we hatched out some eggs in a home-made incubator, mainly because my daughter really wanted to hatch some eggs. We ended up with 2 hens and 1 cockerel. We want to keep the hens, but the plan was to keep the cockerel until he started to crow, and then give him to a family around the corner who keep chickens and goats for food (in a small plot of land a couple of miles away). He's started to crow, but for some reason the family have changed their minds - they now say they don't like cockerels, even to eat! He's started crowing at 7:30, and the neighbours haven't started complaining yet, but we must get rid of him ASAP! Please, someone help us out.

He is a cross between Rhode Island Red and Light Sussex - an autosexing combination. He's mostly while, with some black and light brown feathers. Both of these breeds are dual purpose, so he should be good eating. He's quite large and meaty-looking.
