emergency animal care
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:53:29 pm »

Hi all! Don't know if this is a good idea or not so delete if appropriate ;)

After reading mad goat woman's post (am i an addict) I thought perhaps we could maybe have a list of contacts who might be able to help out if needed in an emergency?

I'll go first.

Somerset, Glastonbury area.
I can care for;
sheep and lambs (and lambing)
goats and kids
beef cattle
alpacas
dogs
cats
all poultry
all small furries
could do pigs if instructions given.
hand milking no problems

pm me if required
 ;D
We'll turn the dust to soil,
Turn the rust of hate back into passion.
It's not water into wine
But it's here, and it's happening.
Massive,
but passive.

Bring the peace back

perhaps a certain mileage of your post code would be better? then someone needing help could put in a postcode and it comes up with list of people. id be up for this also .

I don't yet have any animals, apart from a cat, so won't be much use to anyone but I do like the idea. Once I have some experience under my belt I would certainly add my details.

I'm in fife KY8 area, though can travel roughly 10/15 miles with relative ease.

poultry
dogs
cats
small furries
some experience with cows, (though without help how good at milking i would be i don't know  ::) )
sheep/pigs sure i could manage if given instructions - I'm a fast learner and quite confident with new things

I'm WR11 and can milk goats, basic sheep care, cats/dogs - rear newborns etc.  Grew up breeding German shepherds/shelties/maine coon cats so can offer help with whelping or handrearing.
Can't travel too far as also have 4 small children and disabled mum but certainly happy to help in the near vicinity (Katie and Jinglejoys! if you need me!!) xx
Smallholding in Worcestershire, making goats milk soap for www.itsbaaathtime.com and mum to 4 girls,  goats, sheep, chickens, dog, cat and garden snails...

How about a 'help' map similar to the members one, Dan?

FK10 area - can travel up to 50 miles.  Dogs, cats, hens, ducks, kids (human ones), cleaning up after any of them too, but not hard physical stuff as I'm an OAP!  ;D ;D ;D

Brilliant idea I reckon.

Pembrokeshire Carms borders SA34.

Experience in sheep, dogs, beef cattle, horses and alpaca.  Also have a professional small flock shepherd living in a cottage here who is willing to help.

a satellite map would be good idea as plums said as then you can just look where you are and see oh  so&so is near by they could/might help out  then the only problem  would be is  this goingto be on a favour basis as in are people going to ask for money to come and help or certain amount to cover fuel ?

As far as I am concerned I wouldn't want payment as I'd have to pay tax on it - a jar of home made jam or chutney would be plenty reward for helping out a friend in need.
